Ingram, Texas: qué se sabe de la cooperación de su policía con ICE

Ingram, Texas: what is known about its police cooperation with ICE

Reports and protests say local police cooperate with ICE in Kerr County. ICE does not detail the town's agreement on its public page.

Protesters denounce the cooperation between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and local police and the sheriff's office in the Ingram area, a town in Kerr County, Texas. Press reports from recent days describe the Ingram police department as an example of local cooperation with ICE, but that information has not been confirmed by official sources.

What is claimed and what has not been confirmed

According to those reports, the Ingram police handed over to ICE a number of people equivalent to 10% of the town's population. That figure has not been confirmed by official sources. Other reports cite a different number of people detained this year, and neither figure could be reconciled with government data.

ICE's public page about the program does not list agencies one by one, so that text does not allow verifying the model or the date of the agreement for Ingram or for the Kerr County sheriff's office. As of the publication of this story, ICE had not clarified those details on that page.

What the 287(g) program is

The 287(g) program allows ICE to sign agreements with local agencies so that part of their staff can carry out immigration functions. According to the ICE official page, there are three models:

  • Jail model: designated officers identify and process removable people with pending or active criminal charges.
  • Task force model: designated officers use limited immigration authority during routine police work or as part of a task force led by ICE.
  • Administrative warrant model: designated officers serve and execute administrative warrants on people already in their custody.

As of October 27, 2026, ICE had recorded 2,718 agreements: 182 of the jail model, 571 of the administrative warrant model and 1,965 of the task force model, across 38 states and 2 territories.

What does it mean to you?

  • If you live in a place with a task force 287(g) agreement, a local officer may act with limited immigration authority during routine work.
  • To find out whether your local police or sheriff participates, check the list of participating agencies that ICE links to on its program page or ask the agency.
  • If you have questions about your situation, consult an immigration attorney or a trusted legal aid organization.
