Ohio exige, con la Ley HB 54, que quien se registre para votar al tramitar su licencia de conducir en la Oficina de Veh\u00edculos Motorizados (BMV) presente documentos que prueben su ciudadan\u00eda. La norma fue suspendida el 25 de agosto de 2026 por un juez federal, y reportes de prensa indican que despu\u00e9s un tribunal de apelaciones permiti\u00f3 que entrara en vigor, d\u00edas antes de la fecha l\u00edmite de registro del 5 de octubre.<\/p>\n

Qu\u00e9 dice la norma<\/h2>\n

Seg\u00fan el expediente del caso Red Wine & Blue et al. v. LaRose et al.<\/em>, la HB 54 modific\u00f3 la secci\u00f3n 3503.11(A) del C\u00f3digo Revisado de Ohio para que a los solicitantes de licencia se les ofrezca registrarse para votar solo despu\u00e9s de mostrar prueba documental de ciudadan\u00eda. Los detalles est\u00e1n en la orden del tribunal federal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

La orden del 25 de agosto<\/h2>\n

El juez federal Solomon Oliver, Jr., del Distrito Norte de Ohio, concedi\u00f3 una orden judicial preliminar. Imped\u00eda usar la enmienda de la HB 54 para exigir prueba de ciudadan\u00eda antes de ofrecer el registro a quienes solicitan licencia, tanto por primera vez como en renovaciones. Inclu\u00eda a quienes no reciben licencia por falta de documentos.<\/p>\n

La orden no cubre a quienes indican en el Formulario 5745 del BMV que son nacionales de EE.UU., residentes permanentes o residentes temporales, ni a quienes de otro modo demuestran no ser ciudadanos.<\/p>\n

Qu\u00e9 pas\u00f3 despu\u00e9s<\/h2>\n

Reportes de prensa indican que un tribunal federal de apelaciones dej\u00f3 que la ley entrara en vigor d\u00edas antes del 5 de octubre. La demanda sigue en curso. Seg\u00fan uno de esos reportes, al momento de su publicaci\u00f3n el BMV no hab\u00eda confirmado que aplicara la pol\u00edtica. Hasta la publicaci\u00f3n de esta nota no encontramos un documento oficial que confirme c\u00f3mo se aplica hoy en las oficinas.<\/p>\n
