Harry Kane, striker for Bayern Munich and captain of England, won the 2026 Ballon d'Or at a ceremony held Monday, October 26, at the London Palladium in London. Lionel Messi, of Inter Miami, finished fifth in the men's rankings, according to the list released after the gala.<\/p>\n

The winners of the 70th edition<\/h2>\n

It was the first time the ceremony was held outside of France. According to reports, Kane is the first Englishman to win the award since Michael Owen, in 2001. The runner-up was Kylian Mbapp\u00e9 (Real Madrid), and third place went to Lamine Yamal (Barcelona). Rodri and Messi follow.<\/p>\n

Gala reports credit Kane with 73 goals between club and national team in the 2025-26 season. The ceremony began about 45 minutes late due to traffic getting to the venue.<\/p>\n

In the women's category, Spain's Alexia Putellas won her third Ballon d'Or. Ewa Pajor finished second and Khadija Shaw third.<\/p>\n
